  About Mario S. Fedele:

In pursuit of higher learning, I earned a B.A. degree in Child Psychology and also obtained my Certificate in Early Childhood Education.

I have been "retired" since the ripe old age of 38. Doing the math, that was back in 1985.

I am the author of two Young Adult books, "Stories for a Stormy Night, Vol. 1 & Vol II."
My latest work, a memoir titled "God's Gift," was released in April, 2007.

I live with my wife, two children, and my ever-faithful poodle, Buddy.
We reside in the quaint little town of Ladysmith, which is situated on Vancouver Island, British Columbia.

It's not easy being an author. Unscrupulous publishers are out to make a buck off your sweat and toil, while distracted book agents can frustrate efforts at every turn.
But after years of slogging it out over the keyboard, Ladysmith w
riter Mario Fedele finally has his yarns of fantasy and fear in print, with "Stories for a Stormy Night" volume one.
Retiring 20 years ago at age 38, Fedele didn't exactly fit the writer
's mould. He was an early childhood educator in Ontario, and the first male hired at a metro Toronto daycare. But with plenty of investment money coming in, Fedele shrugged off the 9 to 5 life to raise his kids and to make room for his calling.
During the Toronto centennial he submitted a first prize short story that was expanded into a play. He leapt into writing children's stories, more than 50 in all, but found the kiddie book publishers more cruel than kind.
"Kid stories are interesting to write, but my agent said they were too difficult to market," said Fedele, who moved to the area last August. "Children's stories are a tough business. There is a lot of competition for attention with the written page."
In the end, his fertile imagination led him to edgy young-adult writing, culminating the Stormy Night series, with volume two on the way.
The first tale, "The Fear-o-Lots", plots the adventures of three animated, yet inanimate objects in a whimsical fantasy. The meek Pants, Ball and Shadow steel themselves for a journey over hill and dale to solve some soul wrenching problems.
This is followed up with a new twist on an old tale as a vampire copes with the after-effects of feeding on AIDS victims. In "A Sickness by Any Other Name" the anti-hero (the vampire) and a young lady afflicted with the disease, find a curiously symbiotic, and chilling, relationship.
"Before retirement I had no time to write, but had plenty of stories in my head and was always young at heart," he said. "Now to finally get a book out feels great."
While indeed Fedele has a few copies of his book in print, his publisher unfortunately rides that fine line between a "vanity press" - where authors pay to get a book printed - and a legitimate publisher. Stories for a Stormy Night can be bought on the Amazon website, but the publisher won't distribute it in bookstores.
"Publishers can put people in a tough spot when starting out," he said. "Right now I'm trying to use the Internet to spread the word. If nothing else, it's been a fun voyage of self discovery."

Stormy night reading from TAKE 5!

At age 57, Mario S Fedele has released his first book "Stories for a Stormy Night".
Fedele, with his family, moved to Ladysmith in 2004 from Ontario, and is enjoying the central Island area and the mild winters.
"The book should be read on a dark night, curled up on the sofa with hot chocolate and a blanket to cover your head at times," said Fedele. The book consists of two delightful tales, categorized by the author as novellas. In the first story, "The Fear-o-lots," one meets a most unlikey group of heroes who must confront an onslaught of fear-provoking characters. In the second story, "A Sickness by Any Other Name," the ever-fascinating folklore of vampires is revisited.
The book is availabe online and can be obtained through numerous outlets. Visit Fedele's website at http://www.freewebs.com/mario5o/ for a preview.
